Last Thursday, I had the chance to sit down with Steve at Noble Ale Works and talk through a few tap handle concepts for the brewery.
Since that meeting, I have been working through the next round of design development, focusing on how to carry Noble’s branding into a tap handle that feels more custom, more intentional, and more aligned with the personality of the brewery.
The first major direction was the Flamingle concept.
This version uses the Noble shield as the top feature, with the flamingo artwork and script treatment running down the handle body. The goal was to keep the Noble Ale Works identity front and center while giving the beer-specific artwork enough room to stand on its own. The pink and blue colorway really helped bring that version to life and made the handle feel much closer to a finished concept instead of just a rough design study.
I also worked through a more simplified Noble-branded version using the shield and vertical body layout. This helped test how the same handle structure could support a cleaner brewery-branded design without relying on the full illustrated artwork. The black and gold version especially gives the handle a more restrained, premium look while still feeling clearly tied to Noble.
The work at this stage is mostly about refinement. Shape, color balance, logo placement, readability, and how the handle presents itself from the front of the draft wall all matter. A tap handle has to look good in a render, but it also has to make sense when it is installed, viewed from a distance, and used every day behind the bar.
That is where this process gets fun. Take the conversation, turn it into physical design options, test the layout, adjust the details, and keep moving toward something that feels like it belongs in the brewery.
